Some of my own tarantulas
My salmon pink bird eater (Lasiodora Parhybana). She is a little monster and grows really fast!
My juvenile green bottle blue (Chromatopelma Cyaneopubescens) showing her mature colouration with awesome web tunnels. I only see her when its feeding time.
The curly hair or woolly tarantula (Brachypelma Albopilosum). Easy to keep, docile, eats well, hary and inexpensive. Great starting tarantula.
One of my favourites, the mexican red knee tarantula (Brachypelma Smithi). This is just a very slow grower.
The costa rican tiger rump (Cyclosternum Fasciatum). Striking pattern but does not grow very large.
The chaco golden knee (Grammostola Pulchripes) with its complete molt or shedding. My first choice for beginners.
The orange baboon tarantula also known as orange biting thing or OBT (Pterinochilus Murinus). You need a permit to keep these. Do not be tempted to keep or trade any local tarantulas or baboon spiders as it is illegal.
The mexican golden red rump tarantula (Brachypelma Albiceps). Not very common but there are a few people breeding them so we should have easier access to them soon.
My gravid (pregnant) chilean rose tarantula NCF or normal colour format (Grammostola Rosea). There is a RCF or red colour format as well that displays a more pink or redish colouration.
My first tarantula the pink toe tarantula (Avicularia Avicularia). She mated several months back but it seems the male was a bit old. She has energetic spurts and can jump quite a distance which may frighten some people but she is calm and docile.
The trinidad chevron (Psalmopoeus Cambridgei). Very, very fast aboreal with a huge appetite seen here with 2 large crickets in her fangs. Tends to hide sometimes but mine actively roams the enclosure looking for food.
My chilean flame dwarf (Euathlus sp."red") tarantula. This female has a rare yellow colour on the abdomen rather than the usual red. Very active, calm and always roaming her enclosure.
Often mistaken for a fireleg this mexican pink tarantula (Brachypelma Klaasi) is not very common. This one is very active but only feeds every 2 weeks.
A juvenile purple bloom female (Pamphobeteus sp machalla) starting to show some of that magnificent colouration. She is always hungry and growing rapidly. She made a burrow but seldom uses it.
The mexican red rump (Brachypelma Vagans) is a very underated tarantula. They are fast growing and eat well but some tend to be defensive. There were so many recently that people stopped breeding them and now there is a huge demand for them again.
The brazilian orange banded tarantula (Acanthoscurria Juruenicola). This tarantula in this photo was discarded by a breeder as it lost most of its limbs when it had a bad molt as a sling due to a very dry enclosure. I gave this spider special care and after 3 molts it regained all its limbs and a year later it you can see how healthy it is.
This is a scarlet bird eater (Lasiodora Klugi) a fast growing tarantula, but her urticating hairs is nearly the same as the giant white knee which lets me itch and leaves a rash. I now use gloves to clean their enclosure.
I have two of these hatian brown males (Phormictopus Cancerides) but would never dare to touch them as they are very skittish, defensive and always ready to bite. They are similar in appearance to some of our baboon spiders but they have a nasty attitude!
The back view of the hatian brown (Phormictopus Cancerides) after it calmed a bit.
The mexican red knee tarantula (Brachypelma Smithi). This one has a bold patch on the abdomen as she likes to flick urticating hairs and create little dust clouds. This one loves to climb.
The brazilian red and white (Nhandu Chromatus). This female is very docile and the photo does not do her much justice. She likes to burrow at times but does not run and hide when disturbed. She can be defensive at times and she is always hungry.
The mexican fireleg (Brachyplema Boehmei) after a fresh molt.
My other mature mexican fireleg (Brachyplema Boehmei) female. She use to make a dust cloud every time I approached the tank but I then placed her near the entrance to my study and now she is calm and content.
The brazilian giant white knee (Acanthoscurria Geniculata). Her black and white colouration is not as sharp contrasting as the brazilian black and white. She is a fast grower and slings may take on pray larger than themselves and they continue eating right up to a few days before molting. Her hairs cause an irritation but the are normally very calm and docile.
